     **Lets not be blasting someone back for their freedom of speech BUT a lof of people are posting on other networks that POLICE have tasers.  Yes they do but guess what??? They cant tase a moving vehicle and common sense needs to come into play.

    I  am sorry for the lost of this man and my condolences do go out to his family. To say he was unarmed?  There is no official statement made declaring this or at least not what i have gathered in this article.  NOTE:  (Paragraph 1 Line 4) I quote: "shot a male suspect in Kihei after he allegedly pulled a handgun on the officer this morning.”  The word allegedly is because its not determined and probably still under investigation.  So until it becomes official not even his own family would know otherwise till all the final findings. MPD-- never took anyone from their family.  If he is a family man like what's portrayed then why is he stealing cars?  Why was he not working?  Why was he not with his wife or at home being a home making father if it was not his time to be working?  Do you call "grand theft auto" a career to raise a family on?  It doesn't even matter if he stole the car or was just catching a ride.  He was still associated with the vehicle in question obviously. But i tell you what... that Officer did make it a better place for many children and people who do care about quality living.  To say "MPD has too many idiots who care nothing about the lives of others!"... you are unrealistic and your paradigm on this situation is fogged!!!  Weigh the stats!!!  How many times do officers pull ppl from vehs/ out the rdway/  save a man/woman on her last breath from attempting suicide/ save ppl from burning houses etc  etc etc.  Oh wait and they don't even get recognition or doesn't show up in the newspaper because people don't seem interested in shining light on good only what creates controversy. You are right!!!  This is not L.A or NEW YORK... its worst because when people are on drugs or running the street here someone always thinks they can help the other person out and change.  I do have faith in people and am optimistic but change doesn't prevail as quickly as people would like to see.  NEW YORK and L.A when you mess up people wash their hands of you because they are realistic and they'll only change when you hit rock bottom you only got 2 options.  #1--  Kill/ be killed. #2-- up-- and recover and make positive changes!!! MPD does not kill more people than the civilians. While someone will post and blast negative things about someone in MPD, there is a child reading this who's father might be an officer.  SO.. have some respect and be a role model citizen.  That same child is thinking you have no idea... he lost his daddy working/ or parents probably divorced because the schedule and life was too hard/ daddy misses his games but can help other people/ daddy is probably not the same because not everyone is law abiding citizens.  So when they are not they conform or rebel. Then blame the officials that train them and blah blah blah.  Really have you personally responded to each call with theses people to know if they are doing their job accurately and according to procedure or not??? If the officer's own life was threatened or people in the surrounding area jeopardized by some action even if a bluff threat...this will be the outcome. This was in no way a contentious posting but please be fair and give just info!!!

    re-read the post story teller......the police were chasing the people in the car and it ended when they pulled a gun and tried to get out of the mana kai parking lot.      I do agree the cops on maui are corrupt and killing is not cool anytime except to eat,,, but negative PR, rumor spreading and politics all contribute to the corruption and killing as well

    Even if it turns out he didn't have a handgun, do you think a vehicle can't be used as a weapon? Wake up idiots.  If you don't know what you're talking about, keep your mouth shut. Do you think the police are just supposed to let themselves be run over? "Oh crap, he doesn't have a gun, but he's trying to kill me with his car. Well, Dasjess-ha Wairow, in all of her infinite wisdom, doesn't think I should shoot him. Guess I just have to let him run me over" Good thing our cops are trained better than her.

    So it is confirmed that this person was unarmed? Sad if he was but don't think compare mpd to other police departments. blame the people that train them. maybe the officials that are in charge should look into bettering the mpd training.

    MECO must raise their 15% limit on home owners and business regarding the installation of PV panels. 25% now increasing to 50% over time would be appropriate. I know many people who want to install them right now, but can't due to MECO'S current policies. I don't buy their claims about stability of the system, it's all about the money. Their money of course, so they must be forced to do it. The PUC, state, and county government must step in and make the necessary changes mandatory for MECO.

    Wow i filed my nomination papers  on  2/06/2012 for the OHA trustee at large position and a few others have filed too but we got no endorsement or free advertisement of my pledge to “help move Hawai’i and Native Hawaiians past politics as usual and bring fresh leadership to OHA”.  I hope Maui Now supports all candidates in there quest to serve via elected public office not just federal ones.

A week ago, on an entry still posted, they said Elaban-Paoa did this act without question: "After further investigation, the victim was stabbed and cut by Sydney N. Elaban-Paoa following an argument between the two. Elaban-Paoa fled the scene before police arrive." Forget the grammar, how about saying "allegedly" or "according to police"? Nope, these dolts just said it was a done deal by this dude. When he gets out on probation, Mr. Elaban-Paoa should be looking for a good libel/slander lawyer. And why is it that all of their local news is labeled "Maui News" at the top of all the entries under the headline? Isn't that the newspaper? Something fishy there, too.

    who were the witnesses? the "victims" friends? sounds like you already know that he's guilty, and you're right only God knows so there's a great possibility that he will be found innocent after the investigation. Keep you head up Hoe! Sometimes great people make poor choices! Who made the poor choice is still yet to come out. Maybe the 21 year old victim bought the alcohol for the minor, that would of been the poor decision that started all this mess. I hope both families find a way to deal with the horrible situation, because they will nwver be the same again.

    Thank you, Lily!! I too am very close to the Ohana. & one thing is for sure, he's a good kid that comes from an awesome home with a whole bunch of family that love him dearly! For anyone that knows them, knows he NEVER looked for trouble & made friends every where he went! There is way more to this story..his side of the story! I'm very anxious to hear it do these people can jus stuff all this negative unnecessary speculation! THE TRUTH SHALL PREVAIL!!
