MAUI AUTHOR JILL ENGLEDOW KICKS OFF “AKAKŪ UPSTAIRS” SALON SERIES
(KAHULUI) Akakū Maui Community Media introduces "Akakū Upstairs" Salon Series, its new upstairs Media Lab space at 333 Dairy Rd., Suite 206. The series will take place every Thursday evening from 6pm - 8pm and will highlight speakers, film screenings and workshops to elevate and inspire the community. The salons will be FREE through the month of March. Donations will be gratefully accepted.
Kicking off the series on Thursday, February 23 will be award-winning journalist and author, Jill Engledow. She will be sharing from her recently published book, Sugarcane Days: Remembering Maui’s Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company. It’s a nostalgic picture book featuring images from the company’s in-house newspaper, the HC&S Breeze, from 1948 to 1968. Her talk will be followed by a question & answer period.
Those lucky enough to attend will learn details about Akakū's upcoming "Aloha Sugar" Video Contest which will award more than $3000 in prize money to entrants who can tell the "sweetest stories" about sugar on Maui. There will be a short video presentation on the final hours of the old Pu’unene Mill with interviews from Mayor Alan Arakawa and Governor David Ige. Seating is limited. Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 871-5554.
The "Akakū Upstairs" Salon Series will continue in March featuring two Filmmakers Salons, a multi media show by a well known Maui artist and some exciting new media workshops to be announced.Share this Event:
