The Ka’apuni marchers completed a 193 mile trek abound Maui with renewed faith and hope for the future. In closing out the seven day journey, event organizer Ke’eaumoku Kapu reflected upon the kupuna and ancestors who he said serve as a source of light for the next generation.

Motorists traveling on the Honoapiilani Highway today are advised to use extra caution as marchers in a week-long journey around the island make their way toward their final destination in West Maui.

Nearly 200 people joined in the week-long Kaapuni procession as it reached North Kihei last night. Much of the energy for the day was focused on the U.S. Supreme Court hearing over ceded lands.

This is your Ka’apuni update for Sunday afternoon, February 22nd—the torch lit procession for unity in the Native Hawaiian Community is half-way through a second day of walking the island of Maui. Shortly before noon the marchers were entering the town of Huelo 20 miles east of Kahului.

The torch lit procession for unity in the Native Hawaiian Community is rounding out its first full day of walking. The journey started at Moku’ula in Lahaina at midnight on Friday and by 7 o’clock tonight was exiting the West Maui Mountains.
