Governor Neil Abercrombie today signed a request seeking federal assistance through a Presidential Disaster Declaration to supplement local emergency efforts in response to the Kīlauea lava flow on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi.

President Barack Obama announced that he signed a disaster declaration for the State of Hawaiʻi today, ordering federal aid to supplement recovery efforts in the areas affected by Tropical Storm Iselle.

The US Department of Agriculture designated Maui County as a primary natural disaster area due to losses caused by an ongoing drought.
