Committee leadership roles for the Maui County Council were announced today as the body prepares for the upcoming 2015-2017 term, which begins on Jan. 2, 2015.
Kahului councilmember Don Guzman, who introduced the bill, said, “It encourages better land and infrastructure management, which will help maintain Maui County’s pristine agricultural landscape.”
A bill seeking the implementation of a park volunteer policy for Maui County comes up for review before the council’s Economic Development, Energy, Agriculture and Recreation Committee on Tuesday.
The Maui County Council will consider legislation on Tuesday to rename the Kahului Pool and an Upcountry field after youth mentors Spencer Shiraishi and William “Blee” Amoral Sr., Council Member Don Guzman announced.

A resolution urging the county administration to adopt a unified definition of agriculture and a single process to verify a property’s use, will surface for discussion on Tuesday, March 11, 2014.
Testifiers called Shiraishi a “life coach” and dedicated volunteer who “impacted thousands of people and taught hundreds of children to swim.”
The results will be used during budget deliberations to help determine priorities for the next fiscal year. They will also be used to address future needs and concerns identified by the public.
“Today, I believe that this new council led by Council Chair Baisa, is not only capable, but very prepared to make those tough decisions that will have a lasting impact on all of our lives.”
