There will be two public aerial fireworks displays in Maui County for New Year’s Eve–one offshore of the Grand Wailea Resort, and the other at the Four Seasons Resort Lānaʻi at Mānele Bay. Both displays begin at approximately 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2022.

The Maui Fire Department responded to nine incidents over the Fourth of July holiday which appear to be fireworks related, department officials said.

As a reminder, consumer fireworks can only be legally ignited from 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve to 1 a.m. New Year’s Day.

Fireworks can only be legally set off from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the Fourth of July. Aerial fireworks are illegal and extremely dangerous. The import, transfer, sale, or use of aerial fireworks without a permit is a Class C Felony.

Consumer fireworks can only be legally ignited from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 4, 2021. Setting off fireworks outside designated times is punishable by law. Violations are subject to fines of up to $2,000

A man suffered serious injuries to his hands from a fireworks incident on Thursday morning.

Public fireworks displays are planned on July 4th from an offshore barge along Front Street in Lahaina at 8 p.m.; and at the 26th Annual Lānaʻi Pineapple Festival at Dole Park on Lānaʻi on July 6th at 8:30 p.m.

Fireworks permits will also be available for purchase and are necessary only to buy fire crackers.

An estimated 60 people attended a meeting focused on illegal fireworks, what’s is being done to curb their impact and import as well as enforcement on Maui.

Government officials on Maui will serve as panelists at a community meeting tonight to discuss the magnitude of illegal fireworks on island.

Public Aerial 4th of July Firework Displays:  The first will occur on the Fourth of July at around 8 p.m. from an offshore barge along Front Street in Lahaina.  A separate display is planned for Saturday, July 7, 2018, at around 9 p.m., as part of the 26th annual Lānaʻi Pineapple Festival.

Maui fire crews responded to two small brush fires in Kahului, and five rubbish bin fires in various parts of the island over the New Years holiday.

Police issued a warning asking for the public’s help in reporting the location of illegal aerial fireworks and the identity of people in possession of them.

An 8-year-old girl was brought to the Makawao fire station by her parents after sustaining partial thickness burns to her back in a fireworks-related incident.
