7+ Mexico Quake, No Tsunami Threat to Hawaiʻi

There is no tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi following a 7.2 (downgraded from 7.4 preliminary) magnitude earthquake reported at 4:27 a.m. HST on Friday, April 18, 2014, near the coast of Guerrero Mexico, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

There is a possibility that Hawaiʻi could be elevated to a watch, advisory or warning. If tsunami waves impact Hawaiʻi, their estimated earliest arrival time is at 5:22 p.m. HST, on Saturday, April 12, 2014.

Tsunami Advisory Cancelled, 1.7′ Waves Recorded at Kahului

In Kahului, Maui, wave activity reached 1.7 feet with 18 minute intervals between waves according to a reading at 5:14 a.m. Maui beach parks will remain closed until Ocean Safety officials have completed an assessment of the conditions.

3.5 Earthquake Shakes Fern Acres, Hawaiʻi

A preliminary magnitude 3.5 earthquake was reported at 8:36 a.m. HST on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, 11 miles south of Fern Acres on Hawaiʻi Island, officials said.
