Transportation of Auwahi Wind Turbine Components to Begin

Large semi-trucks carrying the “super loads” will travel from a staging site near Kahului Harbor through South Maui to the Auwahi Wind site starting on Tuesday, September 18.

Road Advisories Begin for Auwahi Wind Farm Construction

Beginning July 2, Sempra US Gas & Power will implement temporary lane closures along the Pi`ilani Highway in Upcountry Maui near Papaka Road to the Auwahi Wind farm project.


Maui's first windfarm project, the Kaheawa Windfarm, is located in Maalaea.  The Ulupalakua project is designed to capture wind resources on the other side of Maui's isthmus along the Slopes of Haleakala. Once complete, the eight wind turbines will generate enough electricity to power 10,000 Maui homes.


Construction continues for the Kaheawa Wind II project continues as the company adds 14 new turbines to the hills above Maalaea.  The company's request to ammend its incidental take of endangered birds at the existing project will be heard before the BLNR on Friday. One project seeks approval of an amendment to the incidental take of species at the Kaheawa Wind site; another project requests the realignment of a ranch road at the Auwahi Wind Farm project site in Ulupalakua.

Public Hearing Wednesday on Auwahi Conservation Plan
