Seabury Hall Performing Arts will close out its season this month with the 30th annual Side Shows festival, featuring a collection of original one-act plays written and performed by students at the Makawao school.

The DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife is seeking community input on a draft management plan for the Makawao State Forest Reserve on Maui. Feedback will help guide oversight of the area for the next 10 years.

The National Weather Service has extended the Flash Flood Warning for Maui until 10:30 a.m. At 7:16 a.m., radar showed heavy rain over east Maui. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. The heaviest rain is falling over the Kaupō area. Additional heavy showers are expected through the morning. Flash flooding is ongoing.

The National Weather Service has extended a Flood Advisory for the island of Maui until 1:30 p.m. At 11:13 a.m., radar continued to show heavy rain over north facing slopes of Haleakalā, including the Hāna Highway.

Maui police said they arrested an individual this week in connection to multiple home break-ins but provided few details, including the name of the suspect.

Following recent rainfall that improved surface water flows and replenished reservoirs, the County of Maui Department of Water Supply (DWS) is suspending the Stage 2 Upcountry water shortage and downgrading it to a Stage 1, effective immediately and until further notice.

The Maui Department of Water Supply is reporting a service outage in parts of Upper Kula and Makawao due to a mainline break.  The outage is expected to continue through 3 p.m. today and affects 30 homes and 2 standpipes.

Makawao residents should prepare for a possible water outage from 9 p.m. Nov. 11 through 4 a.m. Nov. 12.

Councilmember Nohelani Uʻu-Hodgins has invited community members to attend a town hall on community updates and emergency preparedness on Oct. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Samuel E. Kalama Intermediate School cafeteria, announced a press release.

The US Environmental Protection Agency announced multiple settlement agreements and one closure order involving the owners of Large Capacity Cesspools on Maui and Hawai‘i Island. Mani Makai Reserve (DE) LLC, Walter A. Taylor Associates, Inc., Konohiki Corp., Joshua A. Stone Trust and Amy M. Stone Trust have reached settlement agreements and will close their properties’ illegal cesspools in Maui County.

The Kahakapao Access Road, also known as the Makawao State Forest Reserve Access Road, on Maui will face a two-month closure starting next week to undergo infrastructure improvements related to storm drainage and debris mitigation. The work is scheduled from May 2 through June 28, 2024.
