Maui County’s unemployment rate of 4.4 % (not seasonally adjusted) saw a slight increase over last month’s rate of 3.9%, but is still well below the June 2014 rate of 5.1%, according to the Hawai‘i State Department of Labor & Industrial Relations

I was wondering why the hours at the public pools cannot be extended during the summer months? If the hours at the swimming pools were extended, I believe more people (especially those that work until 4 or 4:30 p.m.) would be able to utilize and enjoy the facilities.

Maui County ranked a bit higher than the state unemployment average at 4.1%, with individual Maui County Islands weighing in at a wide range of rates. Molokaʻi was at the top of the county’s unemployment rate at 7.7%. Maui Island was next highest at 4.1%, followed by Lānaʻi at 3.8%.

There are currently 85 vacancies statewide due in part to attrition and promotions within the department. Here on Maui, 19 individuals participated in a basic corrections training class that started last week.

The state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations today released a report that forecasts an employment expansion in Hawaiʻi of 4% for the two-year period ending in the first quarter of 2015.
