New Kula Ball Fields’ parking lots will close for asphalt maintenance and repairs on Thursday, May 1, through Friday, May 2, 2025, and again on Friday, May 9, 2025, according to the County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation. 

The Makawao Boys and Girls Club building at the Eddie Tam Memorial Center complex in Makawao will temporarily close for a reroofing project from March 10-31, 2025, according to the County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation.

Lahaina Recreation Center’s Rec 2 has begun a phased reopening following repairs and upgrades.

Hui Aloha Playground at Keōpūolani Regional Park will be closed from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. May 21 to 24 while undergoing vandalism surfacing repair.  All adjacent facilities will remain open and accessible with other parking areas available to use. 

The Maui County Department of Parks and Recreation is offering more ways to stay informed about department-sponsored leagues, programs and activities — emails and/or text notifications.

Construction of a new restroom at Haʻikū Park is underway and is expected to be completed in late 2024, the Department of Parks and Recreation announced. Situated behind the Haʻikū Community Center on Hāna Highway, the restroom will replace a previous comfort station.

County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation announced that maintenance and upgrades will briefly close portions of certain County parks in Central and South Maui in coming weeks. 

The County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation is delaying the start of management planning for county-acquired land on Maui’s north shore. County officials say the delay is due to a staffing shortage.

Repairs to fencing and playground equipment at the Kalakupua Playground are scheduled from Jan. 17-22, 2022. The Department of Parks and Recreation reports that the playground will be closed during repairs.

The Hawai‘i Department of Parks and Recreation announced a project to improve drainage, install new parking lot asphalt and provide ADA-accessible access to a restroom at Hanakaʻōʻō Beach Park. The park’s driveway and parking lot will be closed during the project’s construction from Oct. 12, 2020 through March 2021.

The Maui Department of Parks and Recreation announced repair work to perimeter chain-link fencing at Kenolio Park in Kīhei from Sept. 28 through Oct. 9, 2020.

Mayor Michael Victorino announced the reopening of additional County parks and beach parks will take place on Saturday, May 16. The reopening of parks facilities includes select tennis and pickleball courts. County parks and beach parks included on the list below will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The open house will be hosted by the Department of Parks and Recreation on Wednesday, March 6, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Kaunoa Senior Center, room 101.

The Maui Department of Parks and Recreation invites the public to a community meeting early next month to discuss concepts for the new Kula Park Playground.

Why would the county tear up a perfectly good field that many kids use for soccer to build a new skate park on, when the county owns an adjoining property?

Will the new Central Maui Regional Sports Complex have a jungle gym for little kids to play on, similar to the one located at Keopuolani Park?

DT Fleming Beach Park in Kapalua is closed to the public due to several downed trees and power lines.

The area in Kula above the lavender farm on Waipoli Road is increasingly being used for parties.
