Maui Businesses Continue to Close and Struggle as Pandemic Drags On

More than 15 Maui businesses, including eight restaurants, have closed their doors for good due to the lack of tourism and other economic woes caused by the coronavirus. Many more Maui businesses are teetering on the brink, as government assistance programs for small businesses dry up and the pandemic drags on. “We are literally hanging on by our fingertips,” said Josh Curi, owner of Da Babooze Bar in Wailuku.

Doctors On Call Maui Clinic Reopens August 10

Doctors On Call, Maui’s Urgent Care clinic, reopens on August 10. Located at Times Shopping Plaza in Lahaina, the clinic will be open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. No appointment is needed and walk-ins are accepted. New primary care patients are also welcome.

The Maui Emergency Management Agency has nearly completed an update to the County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan. It addresses threats such as wildfires, significant beach erosion and highway rockslides and looks at how the County can lessen the impact of natural hazards such as wildfires, tropical storms and erosion on Maui, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi.

Public-Private Partnership Puts $230,000 Toward Meals for Maui’s Newly Unemployed

The County of Maui matched a $115,000 donation from the Hawai‘i Resilience Fund at the Hawai‘i Community Foundation for COVID-19 relief efforts.
