Winds with gusts as high as 40 to 50 mph are expected in some locations on Saturday and Sunday, with winds expected to funnel and accelerate between islands and leeward mountain areas, according to the NWS forecast.

Wind gusts of up to 50 mph are expected on Lānaʻi, with gusts approaching 60 mph at the summit of Haleakalā on Maui today.

Excessive High Winds Force Maui Landfill Closure

The closure went into effect at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25. County officials say the landfill will close early again on Wednesday, June 26, to allow staff to collect windblown debris.

A decent size north swell is providing surfers with some waves but the trades winds are back as well creating windy conditions.

Strong Winds Continue in Maui County

East winds of 25 to 30 mph are expected, with localized gusts of over 45 mph. The strong and gusty trade winds are the result of a high pressure system far north of the state.

Molokai Roof Damaged in Strong Winds

A wind advisory has been extended for the Summit of Haleakala on Maui until 6 o’clock tonight. Winds will be from the east at 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph.
