Flags will fly at half-staff in honor of former state Representative Mele Carroll of Maui, from sunrise on Friday, March 6, to sunset on Sunday March 15, Governor David Ige announced. The lowering of flags coincides with memorial services planned on Oʻahu and Maui.
DeCoite said, “This is a bittersweet day for me and my family. I know I have some big shoes to fill. I am grateful for having the opportunity to get to know Rep. Carroll. She was my representative, my friend, and she was my family.”
The Maui County Democratic Party’s Council Nominating Committee today narrowed the list of candidates for the vacant District 13 House seat to three finalists today. The finalists include Lori Buchanan of Molokaʻi, Lynn DeCoite of Molokai, and Lucienne De Naie of Huelo on Maui.
Representative Justin Woodson will hold on to his seat in the state house following Saturday’s winner-take-all primary; while other incumbents from Maui advance in their respective races to compete in the November general election.
Senator J. Kalani English who represents District 7, and Representative Mele Carroll who represents District 13 in the state House, both serve constituents in their respective chambers that include representation of the the island of Lānaʻi.
