There are 3 public fireworks displays planned at midnight in Maui County, to ring in the New Year. Although there have been recent heavy rains, this past year has been very dry, so the threat of wildfires is still a major concern.

The Maui Fire Department announced the appointment of Lee Mainaga as the new Public Information Officer for the Department.

The Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety announced the promotion of Allen Duarte to the rank of Battalion Chief.

This is the second largest Captain class in recent history, and helps to fill some recent retirements in the department.

The University of Hawaii, Maui College Nursing Program will host a health and safety fair at the Kahului campus on Wednesday, April 20, 2011.

The Haiku Fire Station proposed for construction in 2012 would feature two offsite wind turbines, a heli pad and plantation style structure on six acres of land in the ahupuaa of Pauwela.
