Maui police have launched an impaired driving enforcement campaign that will continue through the holiday weekend. The departmentʻs Traffic Division will conduct sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols at various locations as part of the effort.

The road has since reopened. Maui Now reached out to police on Sunday regarding details surrounding this incident. Information is forthcoming.

Maui police have reopened all roads in Wailuku as of 11 p.m., after a nearly two hour closure due to a police investigation. The investigation also resulted in the evacuation of multiple streets in the area.

Several devices have been recovered in the Kahului and Pukalani areas.

Maui Police Department Captain Terence Gomez was one of 201 law enforcement officers who graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia on Thursday.

The 93rd Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Team, a specialized unit of the Hawaiʻi National Guard, will be coordinating hazmat and active-shooter drills, in coordination with Department of Education and county first responders, this week.

The Maui Police Department outlined four core objectives in a newly released five-year strategic plan.  The plan covers the Fiscal years from 2023 to 2028, and aims to focus on: recruitment and retention, department operations, internal communication, and community relations.
