The National Weather Service and the Hawaii State Civil Defense agency have partnered to raise public awareness to the dangers of tsunamis and commemorate the 159 lives lost to the April 1, 1946 tsunami.

A blessing ceremony will be held on Wednesday for a new vessel on Maui that will support whale response and research efforts throughout the state. The 38-foot Research Vessel Koholā was named after the Hawaiian word for whale.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flood Advisory for the Island of MAUI in Maui County, in effect until 11:30 p.m. This Advisory may be extended beyond 11:30 p.m. if heavy rain persists.
