The American Civil Liberties Union of Hawaii filed a complaint letter with the County of Maui this week sighting concerns over First Amendment rights of protesters demonstrating near the Monsanto facility along the Pi’ilani Highway in Kihei.

Group organizers hope that passage of the federal infrastructure bill would allow Maui County to move the Kahului Treatment Plant out of the tsunami zone, and provide jobs for Maui construction workers.

Supporters on Maui of the Occupy Wall Street Protests plan to host a sign waving campaign in Kahului tomorrow afternoon.

On Sunday, October 16 from 9 a.m. until noon, activist group Millions Against Monsanto Hawaii converged near the intersection of Kanani Road and Pi’ilani Highway in front of Monsanto offices in Kihei.

A group of about 25 to 30 signwavers lined Ka’ahumanu Avenue in front of the Old Kahului Shopping Center on Sunday in support of the Occupy Wall Street movement, against what demonstrators called corporate greed and government cutbacks.
