Tuesday night closures on Honoapiʻilani Highway for rock scaling and removal

Crews will be removing a boulder caught in the protective netting and also performing rock scaling and other rock removal work from 9 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 20 to 4:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 21. The work will be between mileposts 10.45 to 10.55 on the Lahaina side of the Olowalu Tunnel, also known as the “Pali Tunnel.” The road will be intermittently closed in both directions for up to 10 minutes.

Fisherman finds unresponsive man in water in Māʻalaea; victim identified as 23-year-old Kīhei man

A 62-year-old Pukalani man reported trolling in his boat near the shoreline between the “Pali” lookout and tunnel when he observed a fishing pole bobbing in the water and an unresponsive male nearby. The victim has since been identified as a 23-year-old Kīhei man.

‘First-of-Its-Kind’ Coral Reef Atlas Published for West Maui

The Nature Conservancy released the “Atlas of the Reefs of West Maui,” a comprehensive report compiling 20 years of data detailing changes in the abundance and diversity of marine life in West Maui. The ‘first-of-its-kind’ atlas includes data collected by public and private organizations at 2,600 sites stretching from the Pali Tunnel on Honoapiʻilani Highway to Līpoa Point north of Honolua Bay.

Maui Police reopened the Honoapiilani Hwy (30) at 2 p.m. Vehicles have since been moved to the side, and the highway is completely open.

MULTI-VEHICLE ACCIDENT CLEARED AT PALI TUNNEL

The Honoapiilani Highway is now open, however, motorists can expect a delay in traffic.  The road was reopened at 3:05 p.m. The accident was reported shortly before 2:20 p.m. inthe area of the Pali Tunnel.  Authorities say the accident involved three vehicles and there were multiple injuries.
