Early morning crash on Haleakalā Highway claims life of Makawao man
A Makawao man suffered fatal injuries in a crash reported early Friday morning on the Haleakalā Highway.
Maui road closures due to severe weather
The Hāna Highway is closed between mile markers 40 and 41 in the area of Laulima Farms due to flooding. The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation was headed out to Mile 21 of the Hāna Highway at around 9:12 a.m. to clear a reported mud/rock slide. Piʻilani Highway in East Maui is closed at mile markers 16, 28, miles 29 to 31 from Kaupō to Nuʻu, and at the bridge at mile 36 due to flooding.
Update/Open: Traffic notice for Waiehu Beach Rd/ Makaʻala Dr
Waiehu Beach Road is now open in both directions. The road was closed earlier due to an accident involving a vehicle and a moped.

South Kīhei Road is open. The road was closed for more than an hour while crews responded to a downed utility pole.

Update/Near-Fatal: Hāna Highway accident near Baldwin Beach Park in Pāʻia
According to a preliminary investigation, a 20-year-old Haʻikū man, operating the stolen white 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt was traveling eastbound on Hāna Highway at a high rate of speed. Police say the stolen vehicle rear-ended a white 2014 Ford F150 County of Maui pick-up truck, which was also traveling eastbound. The Cobalt then went left of the center double solid yellow line and collided head-on into a silver 2000 Toyota Corolla, which was traveling westbound on Hāna Highway.
Water service outage until 3:30 p.m. at Kamaʻole Beach Park III and Kīhei Boat Ramp
A water service outage has been reported at Kamaʻole Beach Park III and the Kīhei Boat Ramp. The Maui Department of Water Supply reports the outage will continue until 3:30 p.m. on June 7, due to a resurfacing project.
Updates/OPEN: Investigation underway into fatal traffic accident on the Lahaina Bypass
A fatal motor vehicle accident has forced the closure of the Lahaina Bypass at the Honoapiʻilani Highway in West Maui. The accident involved a bicyclist and a motor vehicle, Maui police spokesperson Alana Pico tells Maui Now. An investigation is currently underway and there is no estimated time for when the road will be reopened. The closure went into effect at around 8:47 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2023.

An early morning structure fire at a Kahului restaurant resulted in $440,000 in damage, Friday. The fire was first reported at 1:51 a.m. on May 26, 2023 at the new Rey’s Place restaurant, located at 70 Lono Ave.
