Maui fire personnel rescue drivers from floodwaters in South Maui
Rain and flooding resulted in rescues and road closures on Maui Tuesday morning. Around 8:45 a.m., Maui Fire Department’s Air One rescued two people from their vehicle, which was trapped in fast rising floodwaters along South Kīhei Road near Kaonoulu Street. Another three people in vehicles stalled in floodwaters were taken to safety on foot by fire department personnel.

Maui storm updates for Monday: weather warnings, road closures, cancellations
A Island Flash Flood Warning is in effect on Hawaiʻi Island until 8 p.m. There’s also a Winter Storm Warning for the Big Island Summits until 6 a.m. Tuesday with additional snow accumulations of up to 8 inches expected and wind gusts as high as 120 mph.
Maui Residents Urged to Prepare for Heavy Rain
The National Weather Service reports the State of Hawaiʻi will be experiencing heavy rains over the next few days. County officials say the NWS anticipates that Maui County will likely experience the greatest impacts from this storm on Sunday, Dec. 5.
Maui Weekly Lane Closures Through Aug. 6
The state Department of Transportation is working on several road projects that will result in lane closures from July 31 to Aug. 6.
Maui Weekly Lane Closures Through Aug. 28
Lane closures this week include paving, guardrail and utility adjustments on the Honoapiʻilani Highway; and tree trimming work on the Kula Highway and Haleakalā Highway.

Senator English Thankful For Closure of Hāna Highway to Non-Residents
Senator J. Kalani English (D-Hāna, East and Upcountry Maui, Moloka‘i, Lānaʻi and Kaho‘olawe) thanked Governor David Ige for implementing his recommendation to close the Hāna Highway to non-residents to reduce the spread of COVID-19, and Mayor Mike Victorino for closing the back side county road through Kaupō to non-residents.
