 Governor Josh Green, M.D. has ordered that the United States flag and the Hawaiʻi state flag be flown at half-staff in honor of the late State Senator Sam Slom, longtime state legislator, who died Sunday following an illness.

The Hawaiʻi State Senate today voted on Senate Bill 550, a measure that prohibits the consumption, purchase, possession, and sale and distribution of “powdered alcohol,” marketed by one company as “Palcohol.”

Tsutsui said he expects that by the end of next week, the Senate will roll out a bipartisan initiative entitled “The Invest in Hawaii Act of 2012.” The bill is aimed at cutting into the state’s maintenance backlog, and immediately create jobs for local residents.
