One lane on North Kīhei Road to close overnight for safety improvements
The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation advises road users that one lane in either direction on North Kīhei Road will be closed from 9 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 28 to 5 a.m., Friday, Aug. 29 for safety improvements.
Speed bump installation on Keawa Place in Hāna
Crews with the state Department of Transportation will be installing two speed on Keawa Place, between Hāna Highway (Route 360) and Uakea Road in Hāna next week. The work will be from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 16 and may continue on Tuesday, Sept. 17, if additional time is needed.
Speed tables installation planned on Honoapi‘ilani Highway in Waikapū and Wailuku
In response to community concerns of speeding in Waikapū and Wailuku, the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation will install five speed tables on Honoapi‘ilani Highway (Route 30) in the vicinity of Maui Tropical Plantation and Kolo Place.
Speed limit reduced on portion of Akahele St. in West Maui
The state Department of Transportation advises motorists of a reduced speed limit on Akahele St., mauka of Honoapi‘ilani Highway (Route 30) from 30 mph to 20 mph. The reduction is to accommodate school traffic from the temporary King Kamehameha III Elementary School site, which has its entrance and exit along Akahele St. The school is makai of the Kapalua Airport.
Permanent speed limit reduction announced for part of Haleakalā Highway
The state Department of Transportation has announced a speed limit reduction for part of the Haleakalā Highway. Speed is being reduced from 55 mph to 45 mph in the northbound direction in the vicinity of the North Firebreak Road Intersection near the Hāna Highway, between mile 0.20 and 0.70.
Speed limit reduction along Kaʻahumanu Avenue takes effect March 22
The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation notifies Maui motorists of a speed limit change on Kaʻahumanu Avenue (Route 32) between Kainani Street/Lunalilo Street and Mile Marker 1.96 (vicinity of Mile Marker 2). The speed limit will be reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph in both directions. The speed limit signs will be changed on Wednesday, March 22.
Speed limit permanently reduced to 35 mph along a portion Kula Highway
Maui motorists are advised that the posted speed limit on Kula Highway (Route 37) between Lower Kula Road in the vicinity of the United States Post Office and Copp Road will be reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph in both directions.
Speed Limit Reduced to 35 mph on Pi‘ilani Highway Between Uwapo and Līpoa
Maui motorists are advised that the posted speed limit on Piʻilani Highway between Uwapo Road/Kaiwahine Street and Līpoa Street/Līpoa Parkway will be reduced from 40 mph to 35 mph in both directions. The new speed limit signs were installed June 15, 2021 and are effective immediately.
Mokulele Speed Limit Temporarily Dropped to 35 mph
The speed limit on the Mokulele Highway has been temporarily changed to 35 mph due to the active construction zone between the Humane Society and N Kīhei Road.
MPD enforcement nets 350 speeding citations
