Structure Fire at Towing Business in Puʻunēnē Doused

Crews arrived at the Amazing Towing and Collision Specialist business in Puʻunēnē and came upon a fire to the rear of the building.

Homeless Camp Fire Damages Exterior of Kahului Business

The fire was reported at 4:09 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, and burned 300 square feet of homeless camp items including tents, clothing, portable cooking supplies, and shopping carts, said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.

Firefighters from Pāʻia and Makawao were dispatched at 2:37 p.m., and arrived on scene to find the 20-foot by 20-foot structure on Hahana Road fully engulfed and destroyed by fire.

A house fire in West Maui resulted in an estimated $900,000 in damages to a home located at 908 Kana Place in Lahaina on Saturday evening.

Fire Causes $6,600 in Damage to Nāhiku Cottage

When fire crews from Hāna arrived on scene, they found heavy smoke showing from the eaves of the single family home, and some flames near the front door. The incident was reported at 7:57 a.m., at a 500 square foot cottage located in Upper Nāhiku.

Damage estimates were estimated to be at $250,000: $150,000 to the structure and $100,000 to the contents. The fire cause was determined to be electrical but deemed accidental.

Fire officials continue to investigate the cause of a fire at the Hawaiʻi Job Corps facility in Makawao , but say it may have been intentionally set, according to Pāʻia Fire Captain Ben Bland.

Two Maui Officers to be Honored with Kahuola Award

Officers Joshua Kalb and Erik Losvar are being recognized for their actions during a structure fire at the Kāʻanapali Royale condominium on June 12, 2013, in which they entered a burning unit and pulled out the lone male occupant from within.
