Utility work along Piʻilani-Kula Highway in ʻUlupalakua to impact traffic, May 19

To maintain reliable service, Hawaiian Electric crews will be performing work along Piʻilani-Kula Highway near ʻUlupalakua Ranch Road at both intersections between mile markers 15 and 17 in Upcountry Maui on Tuesday, May 19, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Update 4 p.m. March 20, 2026: Water restored to Upper Kula areas

As of 4 p.m. on Friday, water service has been restored to the Upper Kula area following water main breaks caused by the recent kona storm.

Hawaiian Electric and developer Innergex Renewable Energy have terminated an agreement for a planned grid-scale solar and battery storage project in South Maui. According to HECO, the project was hit with lengthy delays resulting from the developer’s legal challenges and pandemic-related cost and supply-chain issues. Of five solar projects approved on Maui since 2018, only one is being built.

Court decision delays Paeahu Solar project

Innergex, a renewable energy developer based in Canada, has plans to build and operate the 15-megawatt solar array with a 60-megawatt-hour battery energy storage system on approximately 200 acres leased from ‘Ulupalakua Ranch, mauka of Pi‘ilani Highway in Kīhei. The project plans to utilize 150 acres of fallow grazing land for the project.
