Full circle moment: Evelyn Del Valle goes from Head Start student to lead teacher
Evelyn Del Valle, 24, has come full circle with MEO Head Start, the preschool program offered to income eligible families, individuals in temporary shelter, foster children and others – without charge to them. She was a shy youth, who spoke mostly Spanish, when she attended the MEO Head Start program two decades ago. In May, she earned her associate degree in early childhood education.
UH Maui College students launch scientific payload on a rocket
Five University of Hawaiʻi Maui College students built a simulated satellite the size of a soda can for an international competition and rocket launch, UH reports. The payload system design team was called UHMCanSat and placed 27th out of hundreds of competing universities in the American Astronautical Society 2023 CanSat Competition in Blacksburg, Virginia in June.
Hana Lima Career Exploration Summer Program at UH Maui College
The program is designed for students to spend two weeks gaining knowledge about a specific chosen career field. It is open to all 2023 high school graduates and high school students who will graduate in 2024 and 2025.

UH Maui professor earns Board of Regents medal for teaching excellence
University of Hawaiʻi Maui College professor, Rosemary Vierra, was among 15 faculty members from across the state who were awarded the Regentsʻ Medal for Excellence in Teaching. Vierra is also dental hygiene program coordinator and has taught in the program since 2008.
UH Community Colleges to offer new job training courses for Maui residents
Starting this summer, there will be additional free summer job training courses available for Maui residents through the Good Jobs Hawaiʻi initiative. These free short-term trainings will provide opportunities for people to upskill and earn industry credentials in the healthcare, skilled trades and technology industries.

The University of Hawaiʻi Maui College’s Institute for Hawaiian Music will form a cohort of students for the Fall 2023 semester to participate in a unique Hawaiian music composing course entitled, “Ha‘ina Ko Wehi: Celebrating West Maui in Mele.”
Animation is now an official A.S. degree path at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College
Beginning with the Fall 2023 semester, students interested in Animation may pursue an Associate’s Degree at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College via its Academy for Creative Media. Animation and Filmmaking graduates may transfer to UH Mānoa for just two additional years of in-person study to earn a B.A. at the School of Cinematic Arts.

Data incident reported at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College
University of Hawaiʻi Maui College today is reporting a data incident that administrators became aware of in mid-February when an unauthorized third party may have gained access to the University’s computer network. Notification letters are being sent out to about 10,500 individuals who may have been impacted.
Application open for free Massage Therapy Program at UH Maui College
Applications are being accepted for the 2023-2024 Kealahoʻimai Massage Therapy Program offered through University of Hawaiʻi Maui College Continuing Education. This free training is sponsored by Hui No Ke Ola Pono’s Kealahoʻimai program, which promotes Native Hawaiian workforce development in the healthcare and wellness industries. Grant funding covers the full cost of instruction, textbooks, supplies, uniforms, and licensing exam fees for participants.

When Lee Chamberlain and Saman Dias decided to make Maui their retirement home, they hoped to make a difference as members of the community. In that spirit, they have donated more than $23,000 to the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College.
