Hawaiʻi Legislature passed 320 bills; Gov. Green intends to veto 19 of them

Gov. Josh Green, M.D., today informed legislative leaders and stakeholders of his intent to veto 19 bills passed during the 2025 regular session of the Hawai‘i State Legislature. Green has until July 9 to issue final vetoes. All other bills will become law by July 9. 

Gov. Green finalizes veto decisions and signs 10 bills into law

Gov. Josh Green, M.D., issued his final veto decisions today after additional analysis and input from stakeholders. Of the 17 bills on his original Intent to Veto List, Green issued seven vetoes. He signed four bills after issuing line-item reductions, and six bills were signed into law.

Gov. Green’s Intent to Veto list includes 11 bills from 2023 legislative session

Governor Josh Green, M.D., notified legislative leaders and stakeholders on Friday of his intent to veto 11 bills passed by the Hawaiʻi State Legislature during the 2023 session. 

Gov. Ige Intends to Veto Six Bills

Governor David Ige notified legislative leaders and key lawmakers on Monday of his intent to veto six measures. The Hawai‘i State Constitution requires the governor to notify the Legislature of the bills he intends to veto not later than the 35th day after adjournment, which was on Monday, Aug. 31.

18 Bills Vetoed, Including Molokini and Lānaʻi Legislation

Governor David Ige will veto 18 of 20 bills on his Intent to Veto list, and allow two items to become law without his signature.

Mayor Victorino Uses Line-item Veto to Strike a Dozen Provisions

Mayor Michael Victorino line-item vetoed the Maui County Council’s fiscal 2020 budget on Monday, providing a measured reduction of what he called the “council’s record-high $823.47 million spending proposal.”

Governor Ige Intends to Veto 11 Measures

Gov. David Ige has notified legislative leaders and key lawmakers of his Intent to Veto list, which includes 11 measures. The Hawai‘i State Constitution requires the governor to notify the Legislature of the Intent to Veto list no later than the 35th day after adjournment, which is June 25.

Governor Vetoes 13 Bills, 2 Become Law Without Signature

Among the vetoed items was an aquarium bill that would have prohibited the state from issuing new permits for the use of fine meshed nets and traps.

The recess will allow time to negotiate a possible settlement with the UPW in its lawsuit objecting to the transition. A final vote is expected on July 20.
