MAUI ROADWORK SCHEDULE FOR 1/19/09 TO 1/23/09

NIGHTTIME KAAHUMANU AVENUE, PUUNENE AVENUE LANE CLOSURES

Maui motorists are advised of night time lane closures this week on Kaahumanu and Puunene Avenues.  The two rightmost lanes will be closed on Kaahumanu Avenue between Wharf Street and Puunene Avenue in the westbound direction tonight through Friday, between 9:30 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.  The nightly work is for for sewer line and manhole upgrades. During construction hours, there will also be a single lane closure on North Puunene Avenue in the northbound direction. Motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the work area.

24-HOUR HALEAKALA HIGHWAY LANE CLOSURES FROM KAHULUI TO PUKALANI

The state Department of Transportation advises Maui motorists of 24-hour single lane closures on Haleakala Highway in the Pukalani-bound direction from North Firebreak Road to Keahua Road for concrete overlay operations.  One Kahului-bound lane will be contraflowed to provide an additional Pukalani-bound lane on the following dates and times:

  • Tuesday afternoon, January 20, through Thursday s morning, January 22, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., nightly.
  • Friday afternoon, January 23, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The four-inch concrete overlay will cover a five-mile uphill portion of Haleakala Highway and is expected to extend the life of the roadway by more than 30 years.  Phase I of the project will focus on the area between North Firebreak Road and Keahua Junction.  Phase II will involve the section of roadway between Keahua Junction and Haliimaile Road. The final phase will focus on the half-mile section below the Old Haleakala Road off-ramp. Completion of the entire project is anticipated in March of 2009.  With the exception of emergency situations, roadwork will not be scheduled in this location on Monday, January 19, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.  Motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the work area and to allow for extra travel time.  Roadwork is weather-permitting.

HONOAPIILANI HIGHWAY DAYTIME ROADWORK

Motorists in West Maui are advised of intermittent single lane closures.  The state Department of Transportation advises Maui motorists of intermittent single lane closures on Honoapiilani Highway in the Kaanapali-bound direction between Fleming Street and Leialii Parkway on Monday, January 19, through Friday, January 23, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., daily, for paving work relating to fiber optic cable installations.  Motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the work area and to allow for extra travel time.  Roadwork is weather-permitting.

HONOAPIILANI HIGHWAY NIGHTTIME PAVING CONTINUES

The state Department of Transportation advises Maui motorists of alternating single lane closures on Honoapiilani Highway in both directions between Maalaea Road (Mile Point 6.7) and Kaheawa Wind Farm (Mile Point 7.5) on Tuesday night, January 20, through Friday morning, January 23, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., nightly, for pavement resurfacing. Motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the work area and to allow for extra travel time.  Roadwork is weather-permitting.
