Two major projects begin at Maui County parks facilities next week Tuesday.

The Kahului Community Center will be closed from February 17 through early July.  The $149,000 project includes the renovation of the facility’s kitchen, construction of a unisex ADA restroom, and related maintenance work.

In Kihei, the construction of a one mile-long pedestrian path around the perimeter of Kalama Park also begins Tuesday. The $516,000 project is expected to be complete by June 17, 2009.  County officials say the six-foot-wide path will be constructed in increments to limit disruption of park activities.  Construction will begin in the middle of the park near the softball field; park users are asked to heed signage and barricades placed as the project proceeds through different areas of the park.
