A Kahului woman suffered life-threatening injuries in a motor vehicle collision this morning. The accident was reported at 8:37 a.m. at the intersection of Hina and Kamehameha Avenues. Maui police say the accident involved a 1999 Hyundai and a 1993 Ford Explorer. An 89 year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Explorer, was partially ejected from the vehicle, which ended up on its side after the collision. Lt. Bobby Hill with the Maui Police Department Traffic Section said the woman was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition. The 55-year-old Kula woman driving the SUV suffered minor injuries; and the 59 year old Kahului man operating the sedan escaped uninjured. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
