The Maui County Salary Commission will not be making a decision on a salary increase for the Police Chief, until the deadline for applications to fill the post has passed-that according to commission members.

Current pay is listed at $113,100 a year.  With salary inversion factored in, members confirm that the figure amounts to at least $9,000 less than salary for an assistant chief within the department.

The Police Chief on Oahu makes $136,000 a year, and the Maui Police Commission was seeking an increase for the Maui Chief to $131,000.

The commission is currently looking to fill the post being vacated by the retirement of Chief Tom Phillips on June 1st.
