KAUMAKAIWA TAKES HAWAIIAN LANGUAGE AND MALE VOCALIST HOKUS

The 32nd Na Hoku Hanohano awards were presented last night (June 9, 2009) to the top vocalists and musicians from across the state.  Earning the esteemed Male & Female Vocalist and Group of the Year categories were Kaumakaiwa Kanaka’ole, Natalie Ai Kamauu and Holunape.  Musicians with Maui ties taking top honors were Amy Hanaiali’I for Contemporary Album of the Year, Jeff Peterson for Instrumental Album of the year, and Kevin & Ikaika Brown for their contribution to a slack key masters album that earned Compilation Album of the Year.  Maui’s Keali’I Reichel joined Fred Krauss and Puakea Nogelmeier in earning the Liner Notes Hoku for the Kamalei, collection 2 album.

NA HOKU HANOHANO AWARDS TO BE BROADCAST ON KFVE

The 32nd Annual Na Hoku Hanohano awards will be held tonight (Tuesday, June 09, 2009) at the Sheraton Waikiki in Honolulu.

Artists being considered for female vocalist of the year are Diana Aki, Teresa Bright, Amy Hanaiali’I, Natalie Ai Kamauu and Ku’uipo Kumukahi.

In the Male vocalist category, it’s Howard Ai, Del Beazley, Darren Benitez, Bill Kaiwa, Kauakaiwa Kanaka’ole and Aron Sala.

The Awards and festivities will be telecast live on K5 the Home Team statewide and via the web at http://www.k5thehometeam.com/ beginning at 7:30 p.m.
