Hana Couple Missing After Thanksgiving Storm

A Hana couple is missing following a heavy rains and thunderstorms on Thanksgiving.  Carl and Rae Lindquist, both 75-years-old were last seen having dinner at the Hotel Hana Maui on Thanksgiving night, Thursday, November 26, 2009 at  9:30 p.m.

The Lindquist’s vehicle was found heavily damaged in a streambed, a half mile from Ulaino Road, where the couple live.  A Hana resident found the vehicle and reported the incident to authorities at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2009.

Maui Police say it is believed the vehicle was swept into the streambed by water, caused by heavy rains.

A search was conducted on land by members of the Maui Police Department and Maui Fire Department.  Also, an air search was conducted of the coastline by the Maui Fire Department’s Air One Helicopter.  Police will continue the search and the investigation is ongoing.

There was a flood advisory in effect for Maui Thursday night between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m.  The National Weather Service reported heavy rain and thunderstorms in Hana with the system dropping 3-4 inches of rain per hour.  Some areas in the advisory had accumulated 4-6 inches over a three hour period.
