The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management (DEM) encourages the public to attend their monthly meeting set to take place today, January 7, 2010 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Maui Economic Development Board, Malcolm Training Center, Suite 5 located at 1305 Holopono Street in Kihei.

Convened by Mayor Charmaine Tavares in September of 2009, the community working group’s objective is to provide community-based recommendations to DEM’s Wastewater Reclamation Division.  The recommendations assist the County in making strides toward achieving Mayor Tavares’ goal of 100 percent recycling of Maui’s wastewater.

The Maui Wastewater Community Working Group is made up of 21 members representing a range of constituencies on the island of Maui. Monthly meetings of the working group began in October 2009 and the process is expected to continue for one year.

For more information, call the Department of Environmental Management at (808) 270-8230 or visit www.mauicounty.gov.
