Ten years after he held the position for a single season, PK Higa is returning as head coach of the King Kekaulike football team.
Higa registered a 3-8 mark with Na Alii in 2000, spent several seasons as an assistant after that initial stint, and currently is an interim vice principal at the school.
Higa replaces JW Kenton, who stepped down in February after compiling a 23-18-1 record in four seasons, including 6-4 last year.
Kamehameha-Maui is still seeking a new football coach.
The MIL baseball season is well under way, with Maui High setting the pace in Division-I with a 6-0 record. Baldwin is 3-0.
Kamehameha will try to bounce back from its first league loss – a 2-1, 13-inning heart-breaker against King Kekaulike — when the Warriors challenge Baldwin in a 6 p.m. game on Thursday at Iron Maehara Stadium. Kekaulike will face Lahainaluna in the 3:30 opener.
In D-II, St. Anthony and Molokai are tied for first with 2-1 marks.
In boy’s volleyball, Baldwin is setting the early pace with a 2-0 record, while Lahainaluna and Maui High are right behind at 2-1.
Over the weekend, a pair of MIL D-II teams took part in Iolani’s Hawaii Invitational. Seabury Hall compiled a 3-2 mark in the gold division and Hana finished fourth in the bronze bracket at 1-4.
The MIL’s D-II teams open their league schedule this week.
In track and field, Maui High swept the boy’s and girls’ titles in last week’s Blue & Gold Invitational.
