The county’s Department of Public Works will close a portion of South Kihei Road for one week beginning Monday, April 12, 2010, in the Maui Isana and Maui Lu area.

Crews will work with Cultural Surveys Hawaii to restore sand inadvertently removed last year during roadway clearing.  County officials say the work impacted sand dunes in the area.

South Kihei Road will be closed between Ohukai and Uwapo between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. through Friday, April 16, 2010.  Roadside parking in the area, during this time, will not be available.  Traffic will be routed through Kenolio Road.
