A brush fire in Sprecklesville Thursday night burned at least 2 acres of state owned land near the Kahului Airport.  The fire was first reported at 10:03 p.m. about a half-mile from a nearby residential neighborhood.  The Fire Department’s Air One helicopter was dispatched this morning to assist.

The incident did not impact airport operations.  A crew from Goodfellow Brothers Inc. was working on the Kahului Airport airstrip when the incident occurred.  Their heavy equipment was used to remove large boulders that were affecting access to the burn area.

“We want to thank Goodfellow Brothers for their immediate assistance last night. They provided their heavy equipment without hesitation when we critically needed it,” said Marvin Moniz, Kahulu Airport Manager.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
