Fire burns umbrellas at Westin restaurant: More than a dozen umbrellas caught fire in a small blaze at a hotel restaurant in Kaanapali Saturday.  The fire was contained to the outside portion of the Westin Maui Resort & Spa’s  Tropica Restaurant & Bar and was quickly extinguished.  Total damages were estimated in excess of $100,000.

Fire burns brush near Baldwin Avenue: A separate fire in Paia Sunday afternoon burned an estimated 1-2 acres of brush. The incident was reported before 1 p.m. and forced the temporary one-hour closure of Baldwin Avenue fronting the Old Paia Mill.  Fire officials say the fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished.
