Wind gusts of 60 mph expected at Haleakala Summit 6/9/10

The National Weather Service issued a Wind Warning for the summit of Haleakala on Maui.  The warning remains in effect until 6 p.m.  A separate Wind Advisory for the island of Kahoolawe has been continued until 6 p.m. as well.

Winds on Haleakala summit will be 35 mph to 45 mph with gusts to 60 mph today.  Winds on the island of Kahoolawe will be from the east to northeast at 25 to 35 mph with gusts of 45 to 50 mph.

Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.  The public is advised to use extra caution, secure any loose object that may become airborne or move them indoors.
