Governor Linda Lingle is expected to announce her decision today on the controversial civil unions bill.  The item was among 39 the Governor is considering for potential veto.  If passed, the measure would give same sex couples, the same rights, responsibilities and benefits of legally married couples.

Any bill on the potential veto list can be vetoes, signed by the Governor, or be allowed to become law without her signature.  Lawmakers decided not to hold a veto override session.  Today is the last day for the Governor to veto bills that passed this legislative session.

Governor has had multiple meetings with supporters and opponents on House Bill 444, but has not said weather or not she would allow the item to become law.  She is expected to announce her decision this afternoon.
