Molokai advances to volleyball semis

Molokai High lived up to its No. 2 seed by sweeping St. Francis 25-16, 25-13, 25-19 last night and advanced to the semifinals of the state Division-II girls’ volleyball tournament on Oahu.

The Lady Farmers were led by Kalei Adolpho’s 12 kills and Kailana Ritte-Camara contributed 10.

Molokai will face Hawaii Baptist tonight in a 7 o’clock match at Kalani High.

Leilehua survived a five-set marathon against HPA as Ashley Vaoifi pounded out 26 kills. The Lady Mules meet top-seeded University High in the other semi at McKinley High. University needed four sets by beat Kalaheo.

Things didn’t go as well for second-seeded Kamehameha-Maui, which lost to Waiakea in four games, 23-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-14 despite Ginger Long’s 18 kills in the D-I event on the Valley Isle.

In other matches, Kamehameha-Oahu beat Kahuku in four sets by scores of 25-16, 23-25, 25-10, 28-26 and will face Waiakea in tonight’s 7 o’clock semi match at Kamehameha-Maui.

Kaiser survived a tense five-set marathon to beat Kamehameha-Hawai 25-23, 17-25, 25-18, 25-19, 15-12 will meet Punahou in the other semi at the King Kekaulike gym. Punahou advanced by sweeping Mililani.

Both MIL runners-up suffered setbacks in consolation bracket matches. In D-I, Kekaulike was beaten 23-25, 25-13, 15-5 to Moanalua. In D-II, Seabury lost 25-21, 25-16 to Waimea.
