Quick witted comedy coming your way, tonight at the MACC

Smiling. Giggling. Uncontrollable hysterics.

Who couldn’t use a little more laughter in their life?

Maui has so many ways that she lifts the spirits of those who walk upon her shores – none so elevationary as this Sunday night’s Comedy Hui at the Maui Arts and Culture Center.

Be it the quick-witted improvisational skills of its cast members, or the thrill of spontaneous contributions from the audience, the Comedy Hui’s performance is sure to tickle your funny bone and send you rolling in the aisles.

“My family was visiting from the mainland, and I decided to take them to the Comedy Hui a few months back,” said Tom Ulrich. “We’d done all the typical touristy things, but I wanted us to have a real bonding experience. Nothing says family bonding like shared laughter.”

“It was their last night on the island, and what a way to go out with a bang! It brought out the silliness in everyone, even my serious dad! We still have family jokes based on that night!”

From the clever to the bizarre to the awkwardly absurd, the Comedy Hui is here to remind you not to take life too seriously. Anything and everything in life can be hilarious.

Based on the format of the hit television series, “Whose Line is it Anyway,” the Comedy Hui is the brainchild of Amanda Taulere, a student of the prestigious “Groundlings” institute in Los Angeles. She brought her years of experience in comedy and improvisation to the islands, and had a vision to create an outlet for comic creativity and laughter.

The troupe hosts this event monthly at the MACC’s “Black Box” McCoy Studio Theater at One Cameron Way, Kahului, Maui.

A live band composed of keys, guitar and drums contributes to the energy of the wild charades. As a special treat, at this November show, a special guest will be joining the comedy crew – Maui Slam Poetry champion, Lava.

For this Sunday show on November 7, guests may arrive early and partake in MACC bar service at 5 pm, or dinner service at 5:30 pm. The show starts at 6:30 and ends at 8.
