Maui toddler suffers fatal injuries in driveway accident

A Maui toddler suffered fatal injuries on Thanksgiving Eve after being struck by an SUV in the driveway of her Napili home. According to police reports, a 2000 Toyota 4-Runner SUV collided with the toddler who was in a shared driveway at 95 Hui Road F at around 11:25 a.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2010.

The little girl was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center where she died of injuries she suffered in the crash. Authorities identified the toddler as Sophia Vermey, a 1-year-10-month-old girl. The driver of the SUV, a 32-year-old Napili woman, was uninjured in the crash.

The accident was Maui’s 13th traffic fatality this year compared to 20 at the same time last year.
