12/2/10 8a Maui and Molokai High Surf Advisory East Shores
By Wendy Osher
The East shores of Maui and Molokai are under a High Surf Advisory through 6 a.m. on Saturday. Surf is expected to be in the 6 to 10 foot range along affected shores.
The high surf is the result of high pressure building to the north of the Islands. The weather pattern is expected to bring increasing seas and swells from the northeast over the next couple of days.
The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service, means that high surf in the advisory area will produce rip currents and localized beach erosion.
According to the NWS, a high tide of 1.7 feet is expected between 11:11 a.m. and 1:12 p.m. today. The next high time of about 2.8 feet is expected between 1:24 a.m. and 2:42 a.m. Friday morning.
Surf is expected to remain elevated tomorrow, before gradually diminishing on Saturday.
