Ginoza and Miyamoto picked to head Environmental Management on Maui

A wastewater Engineer and a public works executive have been selected to head up the Department of Environmental Management for the incoming Arakawa Administration.

Mayor-elect Alan Arakawa announced his appointment of Wastewater Division Project Engineer/Construction Manager Kyle Ginoza as the Director of the Department of Environmental Management, and Public Works’ Deputy Director Michael Miyamoto as incoming Deputy Director.

Prior to his employment in the Department, Ginoza served as a project manager at Munekiyo & Hiraga, Inc. He also served as Director of the County’s Department of Transportation when the Department was created in July 2003. Ginoza received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. He later earned an MBA from the University of California at Los Angeles.

Born and raised on Maui, Ginoza is married to optometrist Dr. Kim Ginoza, and has two daughters, Kylie and Karissa.

“Kyle has the proven experience to lead Maui County into a new era of putting planning into action,” said Arakawa. “I have every confidence that Kyle will take the Department to an entirely new level,” said Arakawa.

Ginoza said he will work with staff, the administration, the County Council and community groups, “to implement the strategies that they have laid out and to take concrete steps to manage and protect our precious environment,” he said.

Fellow appointee, Miyamoto comes to the Department of Environmental Management with Deputy Directorship experience under two administrations at the county’s Public Works department.

Prior to that, Miyamoto was employed as a civil engineer in the Wastewater Reclamation Division where he was responsible for developing and monitoring project budgets and schedules.

Miyamoto earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Lowell in Massachusetts. He is married to wife, Carol.

“I look forward to working with Director Ginoza and renewing past relationships with the Wastewater Reclamation and Solid Waste Divisions,” said Miyamoto.
