Katherine Day Unleashes Your Inner Marilyn Monroe
By Katie McMillan
If you are looking for the perfect holiday gift for your special sweetheart, look no further than Island Girl Pin Ups—Maui’s pin up makeover and photography studio. Founded by former Hollywood hair and makeup artist (yes, she’s done Rod Stewart’s hair!) Katherine Day, Island Girl Pin Ups offers a retro pin-up makeover that will give Marilyn Monroe a run for her money.
Award-winning photographer Sasha Prince will then take your picture against a variety of stunning Maui backdrops, creating the perfect “Sassy Shot” (as Day likes to call them). If you’re looking to renew your romantic spark, these pictures are certain to do the trick.
Day‘s talent comes from her passion towards helping women look and feel their very best. “Often, clients will come in and say they don’t feel sexy enough to be photographed in a bathing suit. That is what’s so wonderful about the pin up girl look. It complements women of all shapes and sizes.”
It also doesn’t hurt that Day has extensive experience in the elite world of show business. Trained as a stylist at Graham Webb International in London and Washington DC, she served as stylist at the exclusive Cristophe Salon in Washington DC, located next to the White House.
She moved to Los Angeles in 1998 where she spent six years as a freelance stylist in Beverly Hills, styling for movies and photo shoots and doing celebrity house calls. Her work has been featured in Vogue and The Washingtonian Magazine. She made her debut on national syndicate television with Carson Kressley in “How to Look Good Naked.”
Island Girl Pin Ups was recently featured on OC 16’s hit show, “Self Made in Hawaii.” They have also produced two popular South Shore events at the South Shore Tiki Lounge and Three’s Bar and Grill. Judging from the massive crowds at both events, the pin up spirit is alive and well on Maui.
Surprise your loved one this holiday season by showing off your elegant, sexy, and glamorous self. Island Girl Pin Ups is located inside Rutz Salon in Kihei. To schedule your pin up photoshoot and makeover contact Katherine at 323-350-7420. In addition to custom prints, Island Girl Pin Ups can also turn your photos into a book or calendar.
