The eastern portion of the state continues to experience some heavy rains this morning.  The National Weather Service has since downgraded a flood warning on Kauai to a flood advisory, in effect until 9:30 this morning.

At around 6:30 a.m., radar showed moderate to heavy showers over the Garden Isle, moving over the island from the east. Motorists are advised to be mindful of ponding of water that could occur on roadways and in low-lying areas.

Locations in the advisory include the eastern and southeastern sides of Kauai.  Earlier this morning, the Wailua River rain gage was at flood levels above 15 feet.

The National Weather Service advises the public to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding, and reminds the public that when in doubt, turn around, don’t drown.

The advisory may need to be extended if heavy rains persist.
