A High Surf Advisory has been issued for the North and East shores of Maui and Molokai. The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service remains in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday.

Surf heights along the north facing shores are expected to increase to 18 to 22 feet. Surf on the east facing shores will rise to around 8 feet. Surf is expected to peak this afternoon, then move toward a decline on Thursday.

The high surf is expected to produce rip currents and create localized beach erosion. Beach goers should stay out of the water and away from the shore break. Inexperienced swimmers should avoid entering the water in advisory areas.

The NWS reports a high tide of 1.3 feet is expected between 3:06 and 4:24 p.m. today. The next high tide of 2.7 feet is expected between 5:08 and 6:26 a.m. Thursday.
