A plan to replace two water tanks along Omaopio Road in Kula with larger storage units cleared another step. A Final Environmental Assessment for the project was accepted by the county Department of Water Supply following a public comment period on the project’s Draft Environmental Assessment in August.

A 200,000 gallon reservoir would be installed at the Upper Tank site; while a 40,000 gallon steel tank is planned for the Lower Tank site. Both would replace much smaller 12,000 gallon tanks and would be within a mile and a half of one another.

Currently, residents living along the road have limited storage capacity of potable water for domestic and agricultural use. In addition to increasing storage capacity, the project is also aimed at providing additional fire protection for residents.
