The state Department of Transportation has two projects on the schedule for the week of December 18-24, 2010.

An ongoing project in Lahaina involves pavement striping installation.  Work on the Honoapiilani Highway between Aholo Road and Lahainaluna Road will result in travel being restricted to a single lane in both directions (north-bound and south-bound).  Work is planned Monday, December 20, through Friday, December 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily.

Work is also planned on the Kaumalapau Highway.  There will be no lane closures, but the Highway will be narrowed in both the east-bound and west-bound directions between Kaumalapau Harbor and the Landfill Access Road.  Work is scheduled daily from Monday, December 20, through Thursday, December 23, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., for road pavement work.  No work will take place on Wednesday, December 22, in observance of Barge Day.

All other major highway construction projects that impact traffic operations on Maui will be postponed during the holiday season, from Saturday, December 18, through Sunday, January 2, 2011.

Roadwork that does not involve lane closures or does not impact traffic, such as shoulder maintenance or landscaping, may continue on state highways.  Emergency road closures may also be scheduled if necessary.
